The Hartford County woman was found around 8 p.m., Monday, March 21, in East Windsor following the fire at a multi-family home on Church Street.
When firefighters were called shortly before 7:30 p.m. there was a report of “trapped parties on the third floor," the Broad Brook Fire Department said.
On arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire condition, the department said.
Crews made an aggressive interior attack to extinguish the fire and attempt a search, but "very bad hoarding conditions hampered firefighters," they added.
The woman was found inside the apartment by firefighters, East Windsor Police Lt. Matt Carl said.
Her identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members,
Investigators are working with the state police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit and state medical examiners to find the cause of the fire and what caused the woman’s death, officials said.
